Neil Wong, a young and brilliant professor of mathematics, has a problem - he has an insatiable appetite for sex. He desperately needs a woman who can cope with his demands. Mistress Jane lives in Hong Kong and has explored the differences between Chinese and European sexual cultures. Her first novel tries to bring to Chinese readers some of the practices that are found in Europe. Although very different from Chinese behaviour, many European men and women go well beyond what can be considered standard sexual practices and Mistress Jane has used the medium of the novel to present a narrative of these alternative sexual activities. Often they involve pain and subordinate behaviour from one or other of the participating characters and the insight offered by Mistress Jane will be highly illuminating to Chinese readers.
