The main rod is covered with a really nice woven ribbon surface, and the handle itself seems to have a rubber coating that has a subtle criss-cross pattern on it for better grip. The metal in the middle of the crop is actually metal, though I'm not sure if the cap at the end is as well, but it's not that important as overall the attention to detail is really worth the price. It feels sturdy in my hand and dependable.
